Quality injection with X-ray inspection system

To ensure an uniform and accurate product quality, Vostermans Alu Foundries decided to invest in a new X-ray inspection system. Using the latest techniques (f.i. a digital flat panel instead of a graphic amplifier), the new Yxlon MU 2000 offers extra possibilities to rapidly and consistently acquire information about the manufactured samples as well as to rapidly carry through a quality inspection on running product series. The Yxlon MU 2000 maximizes the inspection envelope in a given X-ray shielded area and minimizes the necessary footprint.

The display shows the picture in a high range of gray scales, which increases the scope compared to more traditional methods. Furthermore, deviations are noticed at once. The moveable C-arm and the flat turntable make it possible to inspect all sides of the product. By tuning the filters, contrasts are made clearer and critical parts can be better inspected.

The real-time images are created in a very short period of time, due to the radiation of 160 kVolt. Furthermore the image quality is superior. Excellent digital image quality allows to quickly and efficiently identify fine details and contrast. High throughput is the result. Because of this high throughput and the low testing time, this inspection method offers a reasonable cost reduction. This method also is very suitable for the inspection of safety parts and the documentation of the quality of the castings.
Because of the intensive training of the staff in using the new system, awareness for quality will be further integrated in the organization.
